Support That Meets You Where You Are

Kia ora, I’m Maxwell, aged 35. I was born and raised in Buckinghamshire in the UK and moved over to New Zealand in 2016 after meeting a beautiful kiwi girl, who I married in 2022.

I specialise in supporting people through life issues like anxiety, depression, porn addiction, relationship stress, criminal charges, and anger management. My career background spans counselling at the Canterbury Men’s Centre and Hagley College. I have extensive experience in addictions and disability support work, and with counselling teens and adults. My training and experience mean I can support you if you feel caught in a negative pattern. If something’s weighing on you, I’m here to help.

From 2022 attended Laidlaw College’s three year intensive Bachelor of Counselling. I learned, and was assessed on, my ethical practice of two modalities – Person Centred Therapy and Narrative Therapy. Creating a therapeutic relationship centred on compassion is a massive focus of my work. I am fascinated to learn what stories you might hold that shape your worldview and your identity. I am also fascinated to think about what wider societal messages you might be affected by, which might be causing you emotional suffering.

My aim is to take some of the painful stories you hold and work with you to rewrite them into the life you want. I want to help you gain some autonomy in your life again.

I am registered under the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC) and I am guided by their ethical principles of respect for human dignity, responsible caring, autonomy, and social justice.
